Spin-charge separation in one-dimensional fermion systems beyond the Luttinger liquid theory

Thomas Schmidt (Yale University)

The low-energy properties of interacting one-dimensional systems are described by the Luttinger liquid theory. One of its most important predictions is that the elementary excitations of such systems are not fermionic quasiparticles but bosonic spin and charge density waves, which propagate at different velocities. This spin-charge separation has been observed in experiments. We investigate the fate of spin-charge separation for fermionic one-dimensional systems beyond the Luttinger liquid theory. For this purpose, we calculate their dynamical correlation functions beyond the low-energy limit.
